We’re happy to report those videos are in-fact accurate (really!), but they don’t quite capture the “local’s summer” vibe of the season. Spooky Screenings At This 101 Year Old Theatre (All Fall)
The 101 year old Leavitt Theatre in Ogunquit turns into an actual haunted house during OgunquitFest, but they have fall programming for the whole season, like screenings of classic horror films (imagine watching Dracula in a 101 year old theatre!), drag bingo, live jazz, and more.
Visit A Farm During The Harvest (All Fall)
Just 30 minutes from York, Cider Hill Farm is the place for picking your own apples, trying local hard cider, eating your way through seasonal treats (including those famous New England apple cider doughnuts), and taking a hay ride behind a real working tractor. Also nearby, Applecrest Farm makes an equally good autumn stop, with a full-service restaurant for breakfast or lunch, a corn maze, cider doughnuts, and plenty more ways to lean into the season. Spend the afternoon at the farms, then head back to York for a cozy dinner and a night by the ocean.
Harvestfest 2026 (October 17th)
York’s annual festival of fall never disappoints, from shopping for local crafts and entertainment, to the tastiest fall flavors all in one place.
OgunquitFest 2026 (October 23rd-25th)
From car shows to craft fairs, this multi-day extravaganza is just 7 miles from York. We recommend taking the scenic Shore Road route to capture the most stunning fal foliage on the seacoast.
Historic Ghosts At Strawberry Banke (October 16-17th and October 23-24th)
Designed for families, Ghosts On The Banke turns a 400 year old preserved colonial village in Portsmouth, New Hampshire — just a 15 minute drive from York — into a halloween wonderland including trick-or-treating and historic projections from the “ghosts” of history.
Relax With A Sauna Circuit Or Spa Treatment (All Fall)
The Spa House at The Viewpoint is open year-round, with spa treatments using organic products. Plus, you can add The Baths circuit, featuring a Canadian cedar sauna, cold plunge (new!), and hot tub — in that order — to your visit.
Mingle At The Portsmouth Music Hall (All Fall)
The Music Hall in Portsmouth, New Hampshire is nearly 150 years old and hosts numerous events weekly, with events this fall including cider and cheese tastings, the New Hampshire Film Festival, classical musicians, and more.
Where To See Fall Foliage
York is the perfect base for a fall foliage tour of Maine, and not just because our peak foliage lasts through mid to late October. In York, you're close to farms you can visit during the harvest, rural enough to have many access points to different types of fall foliage, close enough to other towns so there are numerous things to do and plenty of award-winning restaurants, AND you're still by the ocean.
Mount Agamenticus
Just 15 minutes inland in York is Mount Agamenticus, a towering hill with hiking trails for those picture-perfect fall foliage moments. You can even see the ocean from the top of the “mountain.”
Marginal Way
Take a stroll along the ocean on Marginal Way, between Perkins Cove and Ogunquit, to see where the fall colors meet the blue ocean.
Portsmouth, New Hampshire
The red bricks of a small, cozy city make the fall foliage colors pop dramatically. Think orange leaves, set beside a historic church and dozens of small restaurants.
