Historic York became a buzzing town as the last stop on the now-dismantled 19th century street trolly from Boston to Maine — attracting visitors to its several beaches, pristine coastline, and the Nubble Lighthouse, built in 1879. The surrounding seacoast region includes Ogunquit and Kittery, as well as the fast-growing tugboat harbor city of Portsmouth.
